North Andover Select Board Chair Phillips Joins Finegold's Staff

ANDOVER, MA — The Office of State Sen. Barry Finegold (D-2nd Essex and Middlesex) announced recently that Janice Phillips has been named Finegold's new district director.

Phillips currently is the chair of the North Andover Select Board, and she will continue to serve in that capacity while working for Finegold.

According to Finegold's office, the district director assists the Senator in maintaining a close connection to district constituents and stakeholders and serves as a liaison between the State House and the district on legislation and matters of interest to district residents, businesses and service providers.

The district director also ensures that the Senator is informed about district concerns and legislative priorities and is engaged in important district events.

Phillips certainly is no stranger to local politics or to public service. She was elected to the North Andover Select Board in 2021. For the past three years, Phillips was the director of community engagement for the Northern Essex Registry of Deeds.

In 2018, Phillips managed Christina Minicucci's successful campaign for State Representative. A year later, she managed Jim Fiorentini's successful re-election campaign for the mayor of Haverhill.

Phillips was named North Andover Democrat of the Year in 2020.

"Janice is hard-working, empathetic and deeply rooted in the local community, and I was excited to appoint her to be my office's district director," Finegold said in a statement to Patch. "I look forward to working with Janice and the rest of my team to continue serving the people of the Second Essex and Middlesex District."

Phillips also spent 12 years working as a professional birth and postpartum doula.
