North Andover's 6K Hires Dennis Fehr As Chief Financial Officer
The producer of engineered materials for lithium-ion batteries also hired Rob Davies to be the new chief operating officer of 6K Energy.
NORTH ANDOVER, MA — 6K, the North Andover-based producer of engineered materials for lithium-ion batteries and additive manufacturing, has announced the hiring of a new chief financial officer and the first chief operating officer of its 6K Energy division.
Dennis Fehr, the new CFO, previously held the same position for Fluence Energy, where he expanded the company's revenue to $1.2 billion in 2022 from $30 million four years earlier. He also expanded the company's international presence to include 10 regional entities across the globe.
"6K has made tremendous progress on its growth strategy with significant opportunity ahead in both battery and additive manufacturing markets," Fehr said. "I'm excited to help advance 6K's business as customers, policymakers, and investors increasingly recognize the importance of clean technology and the necessity of a domestic supply chain of critical materials."

Fehr added: "I look forward to partnering with 6K leadership to drive growth and create value for our shareholders."
Dr. Aaron Bent, 6K's CEO, said he expects Fehr to play a key role as the company expands its UniMelt technology in the battery and additive manufacturing markets.

"(Fehr) brings a compelling blend of strategic and financial knowledge with a successful career at both a multi-national technology organization and an energy sector start-up, which he helped propel into a $1 billion public company," Bent said.
Rob Davies becomes COO of 6K Energy after serving at Cabot Corporation, where he was responsible for the industrial performance of 18 global carbon black plants and chaired the company's manufacturing council.
At 6K, Davies will oversee manufacturing expansion, including the full-scale PlusCAM cathode material production scheduled to open in 2025, according to the company.
"With the depth of industry knowledge, impressive growth strategy, and strong instincts for innovation and supply chain readiness, 6K Energy is poised for a powerful upward trajectory," Davies said. "I am enthusiastic about the future of 6K Energy, and I look forward to leading the manufacturing expansion of the organization across the battery material industry."
6K has been in the news recently.
In October, the company was selected by the Department of Energy (DOE) as the recipient of $50 million in federal funding from President Joe Biden's bipartisan infrastructure law.
The company said the funds would be used by 6K for a demonstration project aimed at domestically producing multiple battery chemistries using its UniMelt plasma technology.
In December, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and then-Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker joined a group of politicians touring 6K's "cutting-edge battery center" in North Andover.
