Once-Mighty Pizza Chain To Close 4 More MA Locations

A family restaurant chain that had dozens of locations continues to dwindle, with four more Massachusetts stores on the way out.

MASSACHUSETTS — Troubled brick-oven pizza chain Bertucci's has closed four more of its Massachusetts locations. There are now only 10 locations left in the state, according to the company's website.

The latest closures are in Braintree, Mansfield, North Andover, and Norwood, according to WBZ-TV CBS Boston. The Warwick, Rhode Island, location has also closed.

Previously, Bertucci's closed stores in Beverly and Marlboro.

The chain, which is now based in Northboro, filed for bankruptcy in Florida in December. This was its second bankruptcy filing — having also done so in 2018 when it then closed 15 restaurants.

A court filing noted that though there's been success with certain restaurants, a Florida-based debtor has been hurt by the "unanticipated deterioration of the US economy and lack of consumer demand for legacy casual dining brands," Boston 25-News reported.

  • Chestnut Hill
  • Framingham

  • Medford
  • Newton
  • Reading
  • Waltham
  • Westborough

There are also five Bertucci's outside of Massachusetts.

Bertucci's started in Somerville in 1981. The chain had 80 restaurants as recently as 2018, according to WBZ-TV CBS Boston.

In other recent news of eateries closing, Hardcover Restaurant, a Danvers steakhouse, announced it will close at the beginning of May. Tavolino, a pizza restaurant in Westborough, closed last month.
