Plane Misses Runway at Municipal Airport

The small plane was carrying a passenger and a dog.

A small plane missed the runway while attempting to land at Lawrence Municipal Airport Thursday afternoon.

At about 3:30 p.m., emergency crews rushed to the airport after a pilot flying 1974 Aztec Piper crash landed near its designated runway.

"Visibility was poor, and he landed on grassy area, adjacent to the airport," North Andover Fire Lt. Bill McCarthy said.

There were no injuries. The pilot, a passenger and the passenger's dog walked away unscathed. The plane -- a twin-engine four-seater -- sustained some damage.
