NORTH ANDOVER, MA — North Andover's Senior Center programs will be canceled from Dec. 27 to Jan. 7, the town said Tuesday.

"Please think of this as just a mini quarantine period which will protect us all," Director Kathy Shelp said. "For your added protection, staff will be required to test prior to coming back to work on January 10."

Shelp and Assistant Director Cahla Ahlstrom will remain on site for residents who need anything, she said. Meals on Wheels will still go out and essential van transportation will be provided, with ridership limited to one at a time.

"We will resume regular programming January 10," Shelp said. "Unfortunately this means the December 30 Noon Year’s Eve celebration will be canceled. We are very disappointed to cancel this popular event but the health of our residents and staff is our top concern."

All meals in the building will be on hold until positive cases decline "significantly." The Jan. 24 Lunar New Year program is canceled.

"If you have prepaid for the Lunar New Year please stop by reception for your refund," Shelp said. "While this may feel like a step backwards we remember last year at this time senior centers were closed. We are making progress and one day this will be just a memory! We wish you all many happy holiday moments."
