Still No Contested Races For 2022 North Andover Election

With just three candidates having taken out papers, North Andover is not in line to have any contests on the 2022 election ballot.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — With just two days left to take out papers in North Andover, just three candidates have taken out papers for North Andover's 2022 town election, one for each seat on the ballot, Town Clerk Dawne Warren said Wednesday.

One seat each on the Select Board, School Committee and Housing Authority will be on the ballot in the March 29 election.

Candidates must take out papers by Friday and return them, with 50 voter signatures, by Feb. 8. Only one has returned papers so far.

Two incumbents have taken out papers to run for re-election: Rosemary Smedile for the Select Board and Stephen Long for the Housing Authority.

Joseph Hicks has taken out papers for the School Committee. Hicks ran in the five-way race for two School Committee seats last year, narrowly missing out on the second available seat.

Incumbent School Committee member Amy Mabley has not taken out papers to run for re-election.

Only Smedile has returned her nomination papers as of Wednesday.

Candidates must collect 50 signatures from registered town voters and deliver them to the town clerk by Feb. 8. Candidates have until Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. to withdraw.

The last day to register to vote is March 9; the Town Clerk's Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day. For more information call Town Clerk Dawne Warren at 978-688-9501.
