Town Replaces Lights, Weatherizes Schools With State Grant
North Andover received nearly $200,000 in state funds last year for energy conservation work.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — North Andover recently completed energy conservation improvements at the Middle and High Schools and the Department of Public Works using a state Green Communities grant, the town said.
The town received $192,589 from the Green Communities program in Sept. 2021, the state said.
The funds went to replacing lights with efficient LEDs at the two schools and the Public Works Department as well as "perimeter air sealing" at the schools for weatherization needs.

"Upgrading lighting to LED and preventing air from escaping through the building perimeter are easy and effective ways to save money and energy," the town said. "The Town anticipates these projects will result in a total annual cost savings of $41,593.00, which includes maintenance savings of $7,895."
Since it was designated a Green Community, North Andover has received over $1 million in Department of Energy Resources funds and utility incentive grants.

"The average return on investment for the lighting upgrades is over 23% with an average payback of approximately 4.4 years when including maintenance savings," the town said. "The projects will result in 5,015 BTU saved per Green Community dollar. Additionally, the Town will be making a positive impact on the environment by reducing its carbon footprint with a CO2 reduction of 86 tons."
