Weekend Closures Part Of I-495 Haverhill Bridge Replacement Work

HAVERHILL, MA —The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced several lane and ramp closures this weekend that are part of the Interstate 495 Haverhill Bridge Replacement Project.

The ongoing project is designed to replace and widen existing bridges carrying I-495 northbound and southbound over the Merrimack River in Haverhill in order to address structural and functional deficiencies, according to MassDOT.

The project extends from approximately Exit 106 south of the bridges to approximately Exit 107 north of the bridges.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Sunday, and lasting until 5 a.m. Monday, there will be a single right lane closure on I-495 South between Exit 107 and Exit 106. The lane closure is necessary for Industrial Avenue substructure repairs.

At the same time, there will be a single right lane closure on I-495 North between Exit 106 and Exit 107. This closure is necessary for the removal of traffic safety devices and final punch list items.

From 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, the Exit 106 on-ramp from Industrial Avenue to I-495 South will be closed. The closure is necessary for Industrial Avenue substructure repairs.

During the ramp closure, affected traffic should use the following detour:

• Continue on Industrial Avenue westbound.
• Use the U-turn to Industrial Avenue eastbound, U-turn at the first set of lights.
• Take a right onto the on-ramp for I-495 North.
• Continue on I-495 North to Exit 108.
• Take Exit 108 for Route 97 and take a left at the lights.
• From Route 97, take a right to the on-ramp for I-495 South.

Additionally, between 9 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday, the Exit 106 off-ramp from I-495 South to Industrial Avenue will be closed. The ramp closure is necessary for Industrial Avenue substructure repairs.

During the ramp closure, affected traffic should use the following detour:

• Continue on I-495 South to Exit 104
• Take Exit 104 for Route 110 (Merrimack Street)
• Take a left at the first set of lights onto Route 110 East
• From Route 110, take the on-ramp to I-495 North
• Continue on I-495 North to Exit 106
• Take Exit 106 for Route 125 (Main Street)
