DA Releases Name Of The Worker Killed In Northborough

Joel Andrew Boulay Jr. was electrocuted while cutting trees on South St. Wednesday morning.

NORTHBOROUGH, MA — Joel Andrew Boulay Jr., 25, of Leicester, died after coming in contact with high power lines while trimming trees on South St. at Garrison Circle Wednesday morning.

Lindsay Corcoran, Deputy Communications Director for the Office of Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr., released the victim's name Friday afternoon.

The tree trimmers were working for Darryl Henry Arborist of Shrewsbury, who had been hired by two homeowners who live across the street from each other, Northborough Police Lt. Brian Griffin said in a news conference Wednesday.

The 911 call came in at 9:24 a.m. Wednesday with the caller reporting that his friend was trimming trees and came in contact with high voltage electrical lines, according to Northborough Police Chief William E. Lyver.

First responders had to wait until National Grid turned off power to the area before attempting to help Boulay.

"Crews responded to an incident on South Street in Northboro where a member of the public came into contact with one of our wires," Christine Milligan, media relations representative for National Grid said.

"It was determined the victim trimming the trees was deceased upon the officers' arrival," Griffin said.

"Joel (Andrew) was born in Worcester. He graduated from Leicester High School in 2014. He was a landscape contractor for Darryl Henry Arborist in Shrewsbury for the past 5 years. He enjoyed kayaking and snowmobiling," according to Boulay's obituary.

Northborough police working with State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office, the National Grid, OSHA, the Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards and the Northborough Fire Department are investigating the incident, according to Northborough police.
