Opinion: Vote For Meg Kilcoyne For State Rep

James Pendergast of Northborough wrote an opinion piece about the 12th Worcester District State Representative race.

The following is a letter to the editor written by James Pendergast about the 12th Worcester District State Representative race. If you would like to write a letter to the editor, email samantha.mercado@patch.com.

In the upcoming primary, please vote for my niece Meg Kilcoyne for state representative in the 12th District. Meg is easily the best candidate based on her legislative experience at the State House for the past ten years, which none of the other candidates possess. Meg lives in Northboro and was born and raised in Sterling. She graduated from local Sterling schools, Wachusett Regional High School and Stonehill College. She is in her final year at Suffolk Law.

During her ten years working at the State House she helped write and craft the legislation under Rep. Naughton that secured millions of dollars in funding for the district. Notable projects included funding for lawsuit reimbursements relating to the SA Farm issue in Northboro, various projects in the other towns and more than doubling state aid for regional transportation in the district’s four regional schools! Also during this period the regional schools received in excess of $100 million more than they did in FY 2011.

Funding for any project requires interacting and working with various local and state officials to gain the knowledge required of the needs of all five towns not just one! In her role as Legislative Director for the Department of Public Safety she was also the chief budget analyst. She knows tax dollars should be spent wisely and that hard work is always essential in promoting legislative priorities that benefit our entire district in a sound fiscal manner.

Meg has been and will continue to be a strong advocate for education, transportation, road improvements, economic development, especially for small businesses, conservation, protection of our water supply, energy resources and public safety. Meg and three generations of her family have lived in our district, but Meg has already worked very hard for our district for ten years. If you believe as I do that Meg’s state house legislative experience working for all five towns are important and puts her in the best position from day one to benefit our district, then please vote for Meg Kilcoyne on September 1 st.
