• Northborough MA fire chief is retiring in March. When his last day is (metrowestdailynews.com) — Northborough’s longtime fire chief, David Parenti, will retire on March 31, ending a decade of leading the town’s fire department. He’s credited with expanding staffing, modernizing dispatch, and helping win Town Meeting approval for a new fire station. The Select Board has just begun the search process for his replacement, while Parenti plans a low-key retirement focused on family and a future move to Florida.
   

• Police Arrests, Dec. 19 edition (communityadvocate.com) — Recent regional police logs include several arrests in Northborough, ranging from OUI and negligent driving to shoplifting and warrant arrests. The report also covers incidents in neighboring Southborough, Westborough, and Marlborough, all drawn from official station records. Everyone listed is presumed innocent unless a court rules otherwise, and acquittals can be reported upon documentation.
   

• DCF drops gender-identity requirement amid lawsuit, federal probe (telegram.com) — A Northborough foster couple at the center of a federal and state challenge has seen Massachusetts DCF drop its requirement that foster parents explicitly affirm a child’s gender identity, instead mandating support for a child’s “individual identity and needs.” The couple, along with another family, say the original rule violated their religious beliefs and are keeping their lawsuit active in case the new licensing process still blocks them.
