"Purple Heart Community" Proclamation to be Sought

Selectmen will hear Edward Donnelly's request at 7 p.m. Monday at the Northborough Town Hall Offices.

A request to proclaim Northborough a "Purple Heart Community" will reach selectmen Monday night.

Selectmen will hear Edward Donnelly's request at 7 p.m. at the Northborough Town Hall Offices.

In July, Westborough selectmen proclaimed their town a "Purple Heart Community."

That proclamation notes that "many citizens of our community have earned the Purple Heart Medal as a result of being wounded while engaged in combat with an enemy force, construed as a singularly meritorius act of essential service."

A few weeks ago, Westborough became only the second "Purple Heart Community" in Massachusetts.

Chapter 205 Central of the Department of Massachusetts Military Order of the Purple Heart State Commander Leo Agnew presented the proclamation to selectmen.
