5 Things: Nominate an Educator, Voter Registration

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on March 19 in the North End.

1. Rain and snow: A mix of rain, snow and sleet is expected throughout the day and into the evening, with wind gusts up to 37 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Snow accumulation of 2-4 inches is possible. High: 39, Low: 27.

2. Library activities: Bring the children by the North End Branch Library at 10 a.m. for rhymes, music and a story. This program is for ages birth to 15 months (prewalkers) accompanied by a caregiver. At 10:30 a.m., the library will host a storytime for toddlers, ages 15 months to three years, accompanied by a caregiver. No sign-up is necessary.

3. Educator award: Nominations for the annual Boston Educators of the Year awards are now open and will be accepted until April 11. The awards recognize outstanding teachers, paraprofessionals, guidance counselors, school nurses and other educators who have made a unique contribution to their students, their classrooms and their schools. 4. Voter registration: The last day to register to vote or change your voting address or party affiliation for the April 30 primary is April 10. The Election Department is located in Room 241 of Boston City Hall. Voters who have used absentee ballots in the past are reminded that a new application must be filled out each calendar year. Applications can be downloaded from the Election Department’s website, www.cityofboston.gov/elections.

5. Disaster volunteer training: The Red Cross is offering a free, one-day training course for those interested in becoming disaster volunteers. Classes combine multiple disaster-related courses and will be held in Cambridge on Saturdays starting in April. Visit EasternMassRedCross.org for more information and to sign up.
