5 Things: Parks Meeting, Spring Cleaning Help

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on April 2 in the North End.

1. Parks meeting: The North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association Parks and Open Space Committee meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Nazzaro Center (30 N. Bennet St.). 

2. Volunteers wanted: The annual Boston Shines community cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 27. Every year, about 5,000 volunteers come together to help plant flowers, sweep, rake and pick up trash around the city.Register now as a volunteer or register your business or organization to help with the event.

3. Homework help: The North End Branch of the Boston Public Library offers a free drop-in homework help program for students in grades K-8. High school-age mentors from Boston's public and private schools provide the academic support. The program runs daily most weeks, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Visit the library website for more information.

4. Esplanade internships: The Charles River Esplanade Association is looking for interns for several positions. Internships are unpaid, but a weekly travel stipend is granted. Start and end dates are flexible, as are weekly schedules, but some positions require the intern to be at the park for certain programs and events.

5. Bloggers wanted: Patch is looking for North End residents to blog on the site. Whether you enjoy mountain climbing, knitting or watching movies or have opinions about local politics, national news or parenting techniques, we want to hear from you.
