5 Things: Taste of the North End, Scholarship Deadline

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on May 10 in the North End.

1. Almost 80! Today will be partly sunny with temperatures topping out near 80 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Showers and thunderstorms are possible late tonight, with a low around 57. Weekend forecast: Rain is expected both Saturday and Sunday, with highs around 70 degrees, a Saturday low around 53 and a Sunday low around 46.

2. Taste of the North End: The 20th annual Taste of the North End will be held today from 6-11 p.m. at the DCR Steriti Memorial Ice Rink (561 Commercial St.). Sample dishes from more than 35 North End eateries, enjoy wine and beer from local distributors and participate in a high-end silent auction. Tickets cost $99 each and can be purchased online at totne.brownpapertickets.com or by calling 617-643-8105. Proceeds will benefit the Casa Monte Cassino, which offers free housing for families who come from abroad seeking medical care in Boston. 

3. Mother's Day craft: Bring the kids by the North End Branch Library (25 Parmenter St.) today at 3 p.m. to make a special craft for Mother's Day. Each child should bring a photo of themselves—or have one taken and developed on the spot. This program is free and open to ages 2 and up, accompanied by a caregiver.

4. Scholarship deadline: Today at 5 p.m. is the deadline to apply for the ninth annual North End Against Drugs Michelina and Raymond Costa Scholarship. Applicants must be residents of the North End and may attend either tuition or non-tuition schools (gift cards for supplies will be given to those attending non-tuition schools). Applications can be picked up at the Nazzaro Community Center. A copy can also be downloaded from northendwaterfront.com.

5. Family concert: Several Boston area family music artists are teaming up this weekend to present a free Mother’s Day concert to benefit the One Fund Boston. Featuring groups such as Karen K and the Jitterbugs and Vanessa Trien and the Jumping Monkeys, the event will be held Sunday, May 12 from 12-5 p.m. at the Exchange Conference Center (212 Northern Ave.), at the Fish Pier. Donations will be accepted for the One Fund. Vendors and businesses throughout the greater Boston area will donate food, drinks and other items. Learn more at onefamilymusicfestival.com
