5 Things: Waterfront Planning, NEWNC Election

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on May 17 in the North End.

1. Mostly sunny: Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 68 degrees and a low around 49, according to the National Weather Service. Weekend forecast: Mostly sunny with possible evening showers on Saturday with a high near 66 and a low around 49. Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 61 and a low around 49.

2. Waterfront planning workshop Help plan the future of the Boston Waterfront—attend a walking tour and workshop today sponsored by ONEin3. At 2 p.m., meet at the Marriott Long Wharf (296 State St.) for the tour, followed by a visioning workshop at 3:30 p.m. at Atlantic Wharf, 280 Congress St., in the Fort Point Room. Register online.

3. NEWNC election: The North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council annual elections will be held on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Nazzaro Center (30 N. Bennet St.). All North End/Waterfront residents are eligible to vote in the election. For details, visit NEWNCBoston.org.

4. Book sale: The Friends of the North End Branch Library will hold their annual book sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside the library (25 Parmenter St.). Shop from a selection of gently used hardcover and paperback books, DVDs, videos, CDs and books on tape for children and adults.

5. Photography contest: As part of the West End Museum’s new show, “Life in the West End 1947-1953; The Photography of Jules Aarons,” local photographers are invited to submit their favorite photos of the West End neighborhood of today. The best photos will be made into a poster highlighting all that is great about the West End. Submissions will be accepted from May 1 through Aug. 1.
