VIDEO: St. Joseph's Society Building Sells For Over $2M

9-9A Charter Street was auctioned off Thursday morning to the highest bidder.

The former club house of the Saint Joseph's Society at 9-9A Charter Street was auctioned off Thursday morning for $2,425,500.Β 

"This was not a distress auction," Vice President of the Saint Joseph's Society, Gaetano Tarara said. "Am I sad about the loosing the building? Yes, it was the original house of Saint Joseph's. Do I think we're going in the right direction? Yes."

A crowd including 24 bidders gathered on Charter Street in front of auctioneer Justin Manning, President and CFO of JJ Manning Auctioneers, who fielded on-site biddings by bullhorn. (See video attached.)

In order to qualify as a bidder, interested parties had to present $75,000 in cash, certified or bank check. The actual selling price of the property was $2.25 Million plus a 10 percent auction fee.Β 

9-9A Charter Street features a basement apartmet, commercial space with two rooms on the first floor, four apartments on floors two through five (one apartment per floor), and two studio apartments on the rear of the second and thrid floor.Β

"Charles D. Gill, our Vice President of Sales orchestrated the signing of this deal, the marketing and will close the deal on September 17," Justin Manning said. Per company policy, the identity of the new owner was not released.
