Apply to be on the Boston School Committee

Michael O'Neill's term expires in January. Committee members are appointed to serve four-year terms.

Applications are now being accepted for a position on the Boston School Committee. Β

Vice Chair Michael O’Neill’s term expires on January 7, 2013 (although he can still choose to seek appointment). O’Neill was appointed to the Boston School Committee in 2008, and has served as the Vice Chair since January of 2012.Β

Boston School Committee members are appointed to serve four-year staggered terms, meaning their terms are not up at the same time causing a possible overhaul. When vacancies occur, the mayor of Boston selects members from a list of candidates recommended by a Citizens Nominating Panel composed of parents, teachers, principals, and representatives of the business and higher education communities.Β
