Fire Causes $1M in Damage at U.S. Coast Guard Building

No injuries were reported in the Tuesday morning incident.

Boston Fire officials say the fire that broke out Tuesday morning at a U.S. Coast Guard building on Commercial Street was started when sparks from a welding project on the roof interacted with some combustible materials.

The fire was reported at around 9:30 a.m. in the area of 427 Commercial St. at what was described by Boston Fire officials as a three-story "warehouse type building."

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire quickly, by about 10 a.m., but it managed to cause about $1 million in damage to the building, according to online reports from the Boston Fire Department. A new ventilation system was reportedly being installed at the time of the fire.
