North End Against Drugs Meeting Tonight

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on June 11 in the North End.

1. Rain: Expect showers today, and possibly a thunderstorm, with patchy fog before 2 p.m. and wind gusts of up to 21 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Showers and thunderstorms are likely in the evening. High: 65, Low: 59.

2. Fantastic creatures: Today at the North End Branch Library (25 Parmenter St.), children ages 5 and up can explore artwork featuring dragons, griffins, sphinx and other fantastic creatures, and make their own creation with staff from the Museum of Fine Arts. Registration is requested because space is limited; call 617-227-8135. Also today at the library, enjoy story times for toddlers at 10:30 a.m. and babies at 11:05 a.m. Both programs are drop-in.

3. NEAD meeting: North End Against Drugs meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. at the Nazarro Community Center (30 North Bennet St.). For more information on how to join, contact NEAD President Debra DeCristoforo at neadddc@gmail.com.

4. Friends meeting: The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park will hold their monthly meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Mariner’s House (11 North Square). All are welcome to come help plan upcoming events and to learn more about the park. 

5. Senate debate: Massachusetts U.S. Senate candidates Gabriel Gomez and Edward Markey will meet up in a second debate tonight from 7-8 p.m. at the WGBY-TV studios in Springfield. The debate, sponsored by the Western Massachusetts Media Consortium, will air live on NPR affiliate New England Public Radio 88.5 FM. The debate will also stream live on MassLive.com.
