North End Apartment Building Evacuated for High CO Levels

An apartment building on Jerusalem Place was evacuated Monday afternoon after an alarm system alerted residents to high levels of carbon monoxide.

Boston Fire Department responded to a call at around 2:26 p.m. for an activated alarm system at 3 Jerusalem Place in the North End. At the scene, firefighters discovered high levels of carbon monoxide, according to BFD reports.

No injuries were reported, and after evacuating the building, firefighters vented the space to clear the air. Residents were expected to be able to return to the building by around 5 p.m.

The high CO levels are believed to have been caused by a generator in a gutted one-story building one street over at 9 Cooper St. Contractors were using the generator to power an electric jackhammer, according to BFD reports.
