Old North Church & Historic Site Digital Speaker Series Continues

From Queer Puritans to Marriage Equality in the Commonwealth Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m.

BOSTON – From the moment the Separatists and Puritans made contact with the Indigenous People of what is now known as Massachusetts, the Commonwealth has had a history steeped in revolution. On Thursday, April 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., join historian and author Russ Lopez to learn about the history of the LGBTQ+ community in Massachusetts and how the Commonwealth has spearheaded revolutionary change in marriage equality. Tune in on Zoom to hear Lopez discuss how a state that was formed on strong puritanical ideologies became the first state to legalize same-sex marriage. Touching on the lesser-known histories of Massachusetts' past, Lopez will highlight how there has always been an LGBTQ+ community in the Commonwealth, just not always in plain sight. This virtual event is accessible with a donation of any amount to support Old North Illuminated, the nonprofit that stewards Old North Church. The 2024 Speaker Series is brought to you in part by HUB Town Tours. To register, please visit: https://www.oldnorth.com/events/.
