Neighborhoods nation wide held block parties for the National Night Out, America’s Night out Against Crime. The North End celebration took place in the Prado on Tuesday evening.Β

The North End Against Drugs, The Elliot School, The Boston Police and The Coast Guard each had tables set up with information available. There was face painting and a clown making balloon animals for kids. There were also free hotdogs and burgers for all.Β

"Once a year, people are supposed to come take back the streets," John Romano, president of North End Against Drugs said. "At 8 p.m., people are supposed to turn on their porch lights. But we don't have a lot of porch lights here, so instead we float candles in the fountain as a symbol of unity."
