Police Officer Recognized at Red Sox and Celtics Games for North End Fire Efforts

Officer Shana Cottone was off-duty when she noticed smoke coming from a building at 1 Stillman Place.

Boston Police Officer Shana Cottone was recognized by both the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics this week for the outstanding actions and police work that she displayed on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 when a deadly fire broke out in Boston’s North End.

While leaving court downtown, off-duty Officer Cottone observed smoke billowing from a building at 1 Stillman Place in the North End. Without hesitation, she ran into the burning building, began banging on apartment doors and alerting residents to evacuate.

Officer Cottone was honored atop the Red Sox dugout during the game’s “Hats Off to Heroes” program on Friday, April 17, as well as on the TD Garden court at half-time during the Celtics’ playoff game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday, April 23.
