Carey Not Comfortable Celebrating 700th Win

With the passing of Tim Chaloux, the win was not as sweet.

North Reading baseball coach Frank Carey is officially the second coach in the state to see a 700th win. However, the coach was not in the mood to celebrate given the passing of Timothy Chaloux, according to bostonherald.com.

The Hornets beat Newburyport, 9-1, in a Cape Ann League game Tuesday marking Carey's 700th win. Carey is only the second coach to reach the milestone according to the Herald.

He was showered with ice water after the game, but other than that Carey didn't want any to participate in any other celebrations. He could barely get speak without getting choked up about Chaloux, the Herald said.

“I don’t really feel like celebrating right now. Maybe in a couple of months I’ll appreciate this, but we have other things to worry about,” Carey said in the Herald article. “I’m not trying to downplay this, but it’s been a tough few days emotionally for everyone. Even though (Chaloux) didn’t come to North Reading High (he attended Pingree), he played in the youth system here and is very close to a lot of the kids on the team.”
