UPDATED: Chamber of Commerce Names Chuck Carucci as Outstanding Citizen of the Year

Carucci will be honored in April.

The Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce will award North Reading’s Chuck Carucci as its Outstanding Citizen of the Year during an awards winner at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29 at Teresa’s Prime in North Reading.

“We are excited to recognize Chuck as our North Reading Outstanding Citizen,” said Chamber President Lisa DeLeo. “His contributions to North Reading are numerous and he is a familiar figure at community events. Chuck is an outspoken advocate on many town issues that have benefited the citizens of North Reading.”

Carucci is a lifelong resident and was president of the North Reading High School Class of 1960, which was one of the first graduating classes from NRHS.

Carucci was a driving force between the new North Reading High School/Middle School complex as chairman of the Secondary Schools Building Committee.

He is owner and operator of C & C Oil Burner Service, Commonwealth Oil and currently Temple Fuel. He is a former member of the North Reading Business Association and served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Government Affairs Committee, according to the chamber.

“North Reading has been a great place to live and work,” said Carucci. “I am truly honored that the Chamber of Commerce has bestowed this recognition on me.”

According to the Chamber of Commerce:

“Chuck is responsible for the creation and organization of the NRHS Hornet Athletic Hall of Fame and the Turkey Trot road race, which takes place annually on Thanksgiving morning. He has served as a Little League coach, a youth basketball coach, president of the NRHS Athletic Boosters and served as treasurer of the Murphy School PTO. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, having served as Grand Knight in 1979. Chuck has served St. Theresa’s Church as a usher for over 40 years.

“Besides his involvement with the Business Association and the Chamber, Carucci sat on the boards or committees of the Community Planning Commission, Board of Appeals, John T. Berry Re-use Committee, North Reading Rotary Club and the Hillview Commission. He is also a recipient of the Rotary Club’s prestigious Paul Harris Award.

“He married his high school sweetheart, Marianne, and together they raised three children and now have six grandchildren.”

“Chuck’s impact in the town is evident and widespread. He has earned the title of Mr. North Reading,” said Chamber Executive Director Lisa Egan. “We couldn’t have chosen a more perfect representation of the town.”

The Chamber’s selection for its Outstanding Citizen from Reading is Camille Anthony, a longtime volunteer, Town Meeting member and selectman.
