Guidelines Provided for Parents to Help Children After Bombings

There are two documents on the North Reading Public Schools website with guidelines for parents to help their children after the bombings.

Parents are encourgaed to visit the North Reading School District's website for guidelines and tips to help their children after the bombings, according to North Reading Public Schools.

One document provides tips for parents when talking to children about violence. There are several tips listed including: reassure children that they are safe, keep your explanations developmentally appropriate, review safety procedures, observe children’s emotional state and maintain a normal routine. The document also recommends limiting television viewing of the events.

Another document lists guidelines for parents when helping children after bombings. The document lists some things parents can do for themselves and their children.

Parents are urged to take care of themselves, avoid making life altering decisions and take time to do things they enjoy. The document also suggests that parents spend time talking to their children and answering questions, promote children's self-care and encourage children to talk to family or teachers about concerns.
