Westford police on Friday issued an alert about paving scams, which typically pop up at the start of summer.
A typical scam involves workers knocking on your door and offering a discount because they have “leftover” asphalt. Shortly after starting work, they will present a ridiculously expensive bill.

In one instance, a company quoted a woman $400 then tried to charge her $61,000.
“Please be sure to do your homework on these companies,” Westford police said in a statement.

In the last few days, scammers have been reported in Burlington and Billerica, among other communities.
