2. School Committee Renews Superintendent Contract, Gives Raise. The School Committee renewed Superintendent Kathleen Willis’ contract earlier this week. The committee unanimously approved the renewal, which shows the committee’s confidence in her, according to School Committee Chairman Mel Webster.
3. North Reading Company Fined More Than $60K for Asbestos. Two contractors were alleged to have removed asbestos-containing tiles without telling state officials and without taking the proper precautions.
4. Veteran Coach Carey Selected to Address Olympic Coaches. Over his 45-year career as a varsity baseball coach, Frank Carey has given plenty of speeches. On Friday, however, he’ll be speaking in front of a different kind of crowd.
5. North Reading Home Sales Down, Prices Up Compared to 2012. Home sales in North Reading dropped in May compared to 2012, though the overall home sales are slightly up over last year while prices are also up.
