Dietz Resigns His Post as Wheaton's Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Information Director

Interim assistant athletic director and sports information director at Wheaton College to start Nov. 5.

Wheaton College director of athletics and recreation John Sutyak has announced Scott Dietz's resignation as assistant director of athletics and sports information director, effective Nov. 9.

Dietz accepted a position at fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) school Babson College as its associate director of athletics for strategic communications.  An interim director at Wheaton is expected to start on Nov. 5.

"It is a bittersweet day knowing that Scott is leaving Wheaton," said Sutyak.  "While I know that a tremendous new opportunity and challenge awaits him at Babson, I can't help but feel for the students and staff here who have benefitted from Scott's work over the past 13 years.

"Scott single-handedly built our sports information office at Wheaton and has been a trusted member of our senior athletics staff for the past seven years," added Sutyak.  "I was a witness to Scott's first year here as a student-athlete, and to see the positive impact he made on day one through today has been nothing short of impressive."

In his 14th year at Wheaton and 13th in the sports information office, Dietz served as the interim associate director of athletics during the 2011-12 academic year.  Hired prior to the start of the 1999-00 academic year as assistant sports information director, he was employed as the school's director from July 2000 through May 2011, and then reassumed the role this past July.

"I am forever grateful to have been afforded the opportunity to work at an institution and in a department as prestigious as Wheaton's the last 13-plus years," said Dietz.  "To have promoted eight national championships, a handful of NCAA Final Four appearances, more than 80 league regular season and tournament titles, and over 300 All-America honors in a little more than a decade is and was beyond my wildest expectations.

"I have had the good fortune of covering some of the nation's top student-athletes, coaches and programs," added Dietz. "My decision to leave Wheaton was not made lightly, as I've had some amazing experiences and relationships here. With that said, I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my life. Babson is a terrific institution, and this is an important move for me both professionally and personally. I'm excited for the challenge that lies ahead."

Since Dietz's arrival, Wheaton's teams, coaches and student-athletes have appeared on ESPN, CBS Sports, New England Cable News (NECN), Boston and Providence TV news stations, as well as in Sports Illustrated, USA TODAY, NCAA News and The Boston Globe.

Dietz has also served as the host SID for two national championships, 10 NCAA regional tournaments and several Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and NEWMAC championships and tournaments.

"In my opinion, Scott is the best in the business when it comes to media relations," said Sutyak. "His professionalism, attention to detail, thoroughness and ability to effectively promote our students and staff in a positive and professional way have contributed greatly to Wheaton's Department of Athletics. Although he will soon wear the green and white of Babson, Scott's imprint will always be on the royal blue and white of Wheaton."

In addition to his responsibilities at Wheaton, Dietz serves on a pair of voting panels that run weekly national polls and recently chaired the NEWMAC Awards Committee.
