Missed Tax Payments in Norton Could Soon Result in Permit/License Revocation
Selectmen discuss the implications of the warrant to be voted on at town hall.

The Norton Board of Selectmen discussed a warrant for town meeting that would allow the town to deny licenses and permits to property owners if they have delinquent taxes owed.
“It basically says that anybody who is delinquent in paying taxes, expecting some provisions, we’re able to allow the town to deny, revoke or suspend local permits,” said selectmen chair Tim Giblin.
The current version of the warrant also states if a person owns more than one property in town, one delinquent payment on any property could transfer to denial of permits and licenses on any other.

Selectmen said they want to wait on this warrant, because the wording of the warrant suggests the penalties could be automatic based on payment delinquency, and not necessarily up to the board.
The spring Town Meeting is scheduled for May 13 at 7 p.m. in the Norton Middle School Auditorium.
