Four Tried To Walk, Swim Away From Norwood Police

The arrests were a result of a police pursuit that started on Route 1 in Walpole.

NORWOOD, MA — An attempted early morning State Police traffic stop in Walpole turned into a chase in Norwood, Police Chief William Brooks said.

During his report at Tuesday’s selectmen meeting, Brooks told the board that Norwood Police assisted State Police with the arrested of four men. He said that State Police tried to pull over a car on Route 1 in Walpole at about 2 a.m. Monday, but the driver refused to stop. The vehicle then turned towards Dean Sweet before being abandoned on Whitewood Circle - a dead end road.

One person was arrested after he told police that he was out for a walk but couldn’t say what street he was on and two more were arrested after attempting to swim across the Neponset River, according to Brooks. A fourth man wearing shorts and holding wet sweatpants was arrested at 5 a.m. near Vanderbilt Avenue.

Brooks said the men face charges related to a break-in in Boston.

The four men were placed in State Police Custody. Because Norwood was not the primary agencies, the suspects' names do not appear in the Norwood Police Log.
