Patch: Tell us about your business or organization.
Tracey McCaghy: Goldfish Swim School is the premier learn-to-swim facility for kids ages 4 months to 12 years. We use our proven confidence-building curriculum to promote a love of swimming and teach children to be safer in and around the water. Our holistic philosophy, The Science of SwimPlay®, helps children build life skills both in and out of the water using play-based learning in a fun and safe environment.

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?
McCaghy: Goldfish Swim School first opened in Massachusetts in 2015. We opened our doors in Norwood in 2018.

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
McCaghy: As a parent, I understand the importance of year-round swim lessons and, with our unique, educational teaching equipment and confidence-building curriculum, our goal is for children to feel safe in and around the water! This is why I opened Goldfish Swim School in Norwood.

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?
McCaghy: The importance of water safety.

Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?
McCaghy: I would love to be able to offer lessons 24-7 to any child who wants to take lessons at Goldfish Swim School. At times, it’s been difficult to keep up with the demand of the number of swimmers who want to enroll in lessons with us, resulting in waitlists. We are doing our best to open up more lanes and more lessons, and we can’t wait for everyone to join us!

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
McCaghy: We not only teach swim skills, but life skills, too! Through routine and practice in swim lessons, kiddos gain the confidence they need to be safer in and around the water. For some, it’s putting their faces in the water for the first time. For others, it’s letting go of the wall and trusting their arms and legs to get them to the other side of the pool. Through each skill and each lesson, swimmers gain confidence in and out of the pool.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
McCaghy: At Goldfish Swim School, we teach important life-saving skills to turn the tide on water-related accidents and give parents peace of mind. Kids learn best when they are having fun so our curriculum and facility are dedicated to them and their joy of swimming. We have a 90 degree shiver-free pool and small class sizes, all designed to focus on what’s important: water safety. Goldfish Swim School was created by parents, for parents, with this goal in mind — to give kids the platform to build essential life skills that will help them make waves in life. Our commitment to helping swimmers learn how to be safe in and around the water sets us apart. We give high fives, celebrate achievements and have lots of fun, all while learning the important life-saving skill of water safety.

Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?
McCaghy: The best advice I’ve been given is to build a team that is passionate about your mission. For us, it is teaching children life-saving skills. This helps us deliver a Golden Experience at Goldfish Swim School, one where our swimmers are doing some serious learning — all with a smile on their face!

Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?
McCaghy: We continue to focus on offering swim lessons, Jumpstart vacation and summer clinics, family swim times and birthday parties. Come check us out!

Patch: Do you have any events coming up in your community?
McCaghy: In addition to our regular perpetual swim lessons, we are offering Jumpstart Clinics during school vacation weeks and the summer. These lessons are designed to give your little ones a jump start on becoming confident swimmers in the spring and summer months! Visit goldfishswimschool.com/norwood to learn more and to sign up for February Jumpstarts!
