A new urgent care facility now open in Norwood is helping to fill the community’s healthcare gap. Norwood has minimal options for urgent health needs, especially since the future of a local hospital is unknown.

American Family Care (AFC) is located at 956 Boston Providence Highway in Norwood. The clinic’s medical director, Dr. Ashok Devkota, MD, leads a highly skilled and experienced medical staff.

Dr. Devkota brings more than 15 years of experience in internal medicine. He says there is a dire need for accessible primary care providers, especially for the diverse and growing immigrant population in the southwest Boston metro.

“Our goal is to provide unmatched healthcare services for the Norwood community,” said Dr. Devkota. “Primary care providers are essential in our healthcare system, but they’re challenging to get into. With the opening of AFC Norwood, there’s now a reliable, easily accessible healthcare option open seven days a week.”

AFC Norwood is independently owned and operated by Susheel Paudel. Paudel is a global healthcare entrepreneur who, after opening a medical lab and specialty clinic in his home country of Nepal, wanted to improve access to affordable healthcare in his local Massachusetts community.

“We hope that AFC Norwood is not just a medical facility but becomes an integral part of the community. We’re ready to bridge the healthcare gap in this growing community where immediate medical care is difficult to come by,” said Paudel.

The new urgent care offers a comprehensive range of services, including physicals, pediatric urgent care, lab testing, vaccinations, X-rays, and occupational health exams. Patients can conveniently walk in without an appointment for any of the services. On-site lab testing includes flu, COVID, and STD testing, with results available in minutes. Occupational medicine includes DOT physicals, return-to-work exams, and drug testing. The clinic is planning to offer immigration physicals in the future.

To accommodate working individuals, the clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
