NHS Boys LAX to Face CM in 2nd Round of Tournament

The 14-seeded Mustangs will play at Catholic Memorial Friday night.

The Norwood High School boys varsity lacrosse team will face the Catholic Memorial Knights on Friday night in the second round of the MIAA East Division 2 Tournament.

The Mustangs, the 14 seed, beat a 19-seeded Melrose team in the first round this week to advance. The team went 13-5 in the regular season, with a ten game undefeated streak that ran from mid-April through the first week of May.

In the 15-10 victory over Melrose, Norwood's Emmett McNamara, a junior, had seven goals and three assists. Head coach Anthony Roman said that faceoff success led to transition opportunities that helped the team outscore Melrose 7-2 in the second quarter.

"All in all a solid effort," Roman said.

The 3-seeded Catholic Memorial team advanced from the preliminary round with a 20-3 rout of of the 30 seed Pembroke. The Knights were 16-3 in the regular season.

The two will face off at Catholic Memorial under the lights, 7 p.m. Friday.
