Norwood 2018 Primary Election Guide

The state primary election is on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Get out the vote.

NORWOOD, MA — The state primaries take place on Tuesday, Sept. 4, for all parties, with candidates vying for a slot on the Nov. 6 mid-term election ballot.

Massachusetts has incumbent Elizabeth Warren as the sole Democrat on the ballot for U.S. Senator, with Geoff Diehl, John Kingston and Beth Lindstrom on the ballot for the Republicans. Independents Shiva Ayyadurai, John Devine and Joshua Ford are also running for state senate. Scott D. Lively, from Springfield, is taking on Republican Governor Charlie Baker. Jay Gonzalez and Bob Massie are on the ballot for Governor for the Democrats.

One primary that has drawn interest from observes is the race for the Democratic nomination for secretary of state. Longtime incumbent William F. Galvin, who was first elected to the position in 1994, faces a challenge from Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim. On the Republican side, only Anthony Amore will be on the ballot.

The Eighth Congressional District race includes a Democratic primary battle between incumbent Stephen Lynch, game developer Brianna Wu of Dedham and Air Force veteran Christopher Voehl of Milton. There are no Republican candidates.

Attorney General candidates in the Republican camp are James R. McMahon and Daniel Shores. AG Maura Healey is alone in the Democratic primary.

State Senator Michael Rush of the Norfolk and Suffolk District and state Rep. John Rogers of the 12th Norfolk both have no Democratic primary opponents and no candidates on the Republican side.
