Norwood extends Compost Pilot Program!

NORWOOD, MA - The Town of Norwood has launched an extended curbside compost pilot program in partnership with Black Earth Compost. Originally slated to end in June 2025, the program has been extended to September 30, 2025.

The free program offers Norwood residents who already receive curbside trash and recycling services a weekly collection of food scraps and other organic materials. Participants will receive a starter kit that includes a curbside bin and compostable bin liners, along with an online account to manage their service.

The program accepts a wide range of materials, including items not typically allowed in backyard compost piles such as meat, bones, and dairy. Other accepted materials include food-soiled paper products and certified compostable serviceware.

Black Earth Compost will convert the collected materials into nutrient-rich compost. As a benefit of participation, residents will receive a cubic foot bag of finished compost in the spring of 2025.

Residents who are not eligible for the curbside program can still take advantage of free food scrap drop-off locations at the Winter Street Recycling Center, DPW Yard, Prescott School, and Cleveland School.
