Norwood Legislators Visit Blue Hills Regional Tech Tuesday

NORWOOD, MA - State Sen. Michael Rush, Rep. John Rogers and the school's Norwood School Committee Representative Kevin Connolly visited Blue Hills Regional Technical School Tuesday to meet and visit several school programs.

Rush, Rogers and D Connolly met with six senior AP Government students for a discussion about government and legislation. As part of their discussion, each student had the opportunity to ask questions.

Students who participated in the discussion included Domenic Spano (Criminal Justice), Isabella Leonard (Design and Visual Communications), Melanie Magoon (Health Services), Jesseley Gomes (Health Services), John Hawkins (Culinary) and Temia Murray (Drafting). They asked questions about what a day in the life looked like for each elected position, struggles relating to their positions, policies and more.

When asked about a typical day, Rogers talked about how each day is different and how he loves that about his job.

During their discussion, students learned about the legislative process and the importance of working with people to make positive changes and get things done.

As part of this discussion, Rush talked about the many bills on Beacon Hill that originate in local households. He also emphasized the importance of having good conversations and agreeing to disagree without making it personal.

Connolly's view of politics as a school committee representative emphasized the importance of personal connections as well.

"We thank Senator Rush, Rep. Rogers and District School Committee Rep. Connolly for taking the time out of their busy schedules to come visit our school and speak with our students," Superintendent Jill Rossetti said. "Their visit provided a great opportunity for our AP Government students to have an informal conversation with their local elected officials to learn more about not only their work but also about the impact their work has on their personal lives and the Commonwealth."

While visiting Blue Hills, the guests also saw some garden art that ninth-grade students in the metal fabrication program displayed in the hallway and visited the culinary arts program.
