Norwood Police will Participate in a Virtual Ride-Along on Twitter

On Friday March 22, starting at 4 p.m., the Norwood Police Department, alongside law enforcement agencies around the world, will connect via Twitter to participate in a 24-hour virtual ride-along to bring attention to the use of social media by law enforcement. Citizens will ride alongside as a patrol officer takes them out on the road during the course of a shift via the popular social media platform Twitter. 

The officer will provide real time updates as to what is happening throughout the evening to give citizens a feel for the daily interactions a patrol officer encounters in their community.  The officer will also answer questions that Twitter subscribers may have about the job or other range of topics.

The virtual ride-along will kick off at 4 p.m. in roll call briefing as officers receive their assignments for the day. From there we will check over our cruisers and gear and then hit the road. Citizens will follow us via Twitter as we respond to calls for service, enforce traffic laws, walk the beat and initiate our own investigations. As a police officer, no single day is the same and the variety of calls for service varies greatly.  Photos will also accompany our Tweets when possible.

To take part in this event you do not need a Twitter account although having one would enhance the experience slightly.  If you do not wish to sign up you can simply visit www.twitter.com/norwoodpolice and refresh the page periodically for updates.  If you already follow us on Facebook, (www.facebook.com/norwoodpolice) then on the desktop version of the site you will observe a Twitter tab, which when clicked, will take you to our feed via Facebook.
