Norwood To Receive $20 Million In State Budget

The budget, which passed on Monday, allocated more than $12.5 million in public school funding and nearly $5.4 million in unrestricted aid

NORWOOD, MA - Norwood will receive more than $12.5 million in Chapter 70 funding for its public schools and nearly $5.4 million in unrestricted general government aid as part of the state budget passed on Monday by the state legislature.

The state budget includes a 5.4 percent increase in aid for local governments, as well a 9 percent increase in Chapter 70 funding for public school districts over the budget for the fiscal year that ended on June 30.

Norwood's share includes $12,686,621 in Chapter 70 for its public schools and $5,388,181 in general unrestricted government aid.

School funding increased 36.83% from the $9,271,812 allocated in the FY 22, which ended . Local funding increased by 5.4% from last year's amount of $5,112,126.

The $52.7 billion package does not contain any broad-based tax hikes. Tax revenues are actually above previous estimates - leaving a surplus of around $3 billion from fiscal year 2022. The budget also includes $110 million to continue free, universal school meals for all school children in Massachusetts.

For Norwood, $50,000 was earmarked for RICKY, Inc. Headquartered on Coach Lane, the organization provides essential personal items and substance use recovery care materials to homeless individuals with substance use and mental health disorders within the Greater Boston region.

Gov. Charlie Baker has 10 days to sign the budget.
