Norwood Selected For Mass Save Energy Community First Partnership

NORWOOD, MA – Norwood has been selected to participate in the 2022-2024 Community First Partnership offered by the Sponsors of Mass Save, General Manager Tony Mazzucco announced Thursday.

The Town of Norwood, working in collaboration with the Town of Sharon and the Town of Walpole, is one of 30 communities selected to participate in this new initiative.

Norwood will work with local Mass Save sponsor National Grid to provide cost-saving energy efficiency solutions to residents, small businesses, houses of worship and local nonprofits. There will be a particular emphasis on reaching renters and landlords, non-English-speaking/Limited English Proficiency residents, low-to-moderate income households, and small businesses.

Participants will receive a no-cost energy assessment to identify energy-saving opportunities, such as insulation or heating and cooling equipment upgrades. Through this partnership, Mass Save Sponsors offer up to 100% off the cost of approved upgrades.

Participants can also receive a variety of no-cost energy-saving products such as water saving devices and programmable thermostats.

Through the initiative, the Town of Norwood aims to facilitate:

• 97 insulation upgrades
• 54 high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment upgrades
• 38 small business energy assessments

“This partnership will allow us to provide direct outreach to residents, business owners and other organizations in Norwood, and help them reduce their utility bills and energy usage through either a Mass Save or Norwood Light efficiency program,” said David Ruggiero, Town Energy Manager and Chair of the Norwood Sustainability Commission. “Norwood's Green Communities designation and related projects have helped us identify additional opportunities for programs and partnerships that further equity and sustainability, and have allowed us to expand our energy efficiency efforts from municipal buildings to include residences and businesses.”

As a Community Partner Team, the Towns of Norwood, Sharon and Walpole are eligible for up to $35,000 in combined funding each year for three years to support these outreach efforts, as well as marketing and technical support from the Mass Save Sponsors.
