Woman Struck By Car Near Norwood Hospital Dies

The woman was struck as the was crossing the street, according to Norwood Police.

NORWOOD, MA — A person who was struck in front of Norwood Hospital has died.

Just before midday, Norwood Police and Fire responded to a report of a pedestrian accident on Washington Street, just outside the hospital. An early investigation indicates that an SUV traveling north hit a woman in her 80s who was crossing the street while in or near the crosswalk. The woman was taken directly into the Norwood Hospital by hospital staff where she succumbed to the injuries.

The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

Washington Street was closed for several hours while investigators worked the scene, the road has since reopened.

The Norfolk County District Attorney's office is investigating along with Norwood Police.

The victim's name has not been released as of Thursday night.
