Police Arrest Norwood Man for Drug Trafficking After High-Speed Chase

NORWOOD — A Norwood man has been arrested and charged with drug trafficking after a high-speed pursuit and subsequent investigation. This is an update to last week's Patch article that can be found here: https://patch.com/massachusett...


In a Facebook post, Norwood Police identified Santo De La Cruz Lara, 41, as the individual that was taken into custody on Thursday, Sept. 4, by their police officers. The arrest follows an incident on Sunday, Aug. 24, when Officer Joseph DiBlasi Jr. attempted to stop a vehicle whose owner had a suspended license.


The vehicle, allegedly driven by De La Cruz Lara, initially pulled over on Lenox Street but then fled, reaching speeds of nearly 90 miles per hour. For public safety, the pursuit was quickly called off. Shortly after, police received multiple reports of items being thrown from the vehicle on Pleasant Street. Officers recovered numerous pre-packaged baggies containing close to 50 grams of powder and crack cocaine.

Following an investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for De La Cruz Lara for several multiple charges, including Trafficking Cocaine, Distributing a Class B Drug, Failure to Stop for Police as well as numerous motor vehicle violation.

De La Cruz Lara was arraigned in Dedham District Court and is being held without bail at the Norfolk County Correctional Center. A dangerousness hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 10. The above listed offenses are allegations at this time and De La Cruz is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. -FC
