Police chase leads to drug recovery by Norwood PD

50 grams of powder and crack cocaine seized after suspect takes off from traffic stop.

(Fielding Chase)

Norwood Police say they're trying to identify the driver of a vehicle that fled from them. "An ongoing investigation is underway to identify the operator of the vehicle, who will face multiple criminal charges" NPD said in a recent Facebook post.

The incident happened this past Sunday, August 24, 2025, at approximately 6:00 PM when an officer stopped a vehicle for an operator license violation. NPD says after initially stopping on Lenox St, the driver took off at a high rate of speed. NPD estimates the vehicle reached speeds of nearly 90 MPH on Pleasant St. Unfortunately, due to the time of day, and "danger posed to the public, the pursuit was quickly terminated" according to Norwood Police.

Interestingly, several witnesses who observed the fleeing vehicle reported seeing the occupants throwing items out of the car. Officers searched the area and located baggies containing nearly 50 grams of powder and crack cocaine.

NPD made it a point to commend the observant community members which led to the recovery of the drugs. What's more, they cite Officer DiBlasi whose proactive traffic enforcement course led to the drug seizure and hopefully, an arrest of the suspect. -FC
