NORWOOD, MA – The woman killed while crossing the street near Norwood Hospital has been identified. Dawn Whitney, 81, was struck by an SUV Wednesday while bringing a bouquet of flowers to someone at the hospital, according to the Norwood Police Department. Just before midday Wednesday, Norwood Police and Fire responded to a report of a pedestrian accident on Washington Street, just outside the hospital. An early investigation indicates that an SUV traveling north hit Whitney, who was crossing the street while in or near the crosswalk. She was taken directly into the Norwood Hospital by hospital staff where she succumbed to the injuries. The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said. The Norfolk County District Attorney's office is investigating along with Norwood Police. <hr />Image via Norwood Police Department
