Rogers Finishes Triathlon, Raises $20K for Matt Brown Charity

The state representative and his wife finished the rainy day triathlon in under 83 minutes.

State Representative John Rogers and his wife Brenda participated in the third annual Escape The Cape Sprint Triathlon this past weekend, raising $20,000 for Brownie Points the charity established in the name of Norwood’s Matt Brown.

The event featured a 1/3 mile ocean swim, followed by a 10-mile bike, and finished with a 3.1 mile run. The rains last Saturday morning were heavy at times and cold winds gusted steadily at 25 mph, but the pair both finished in under 83 minutes.

“Brenda beat me by five minutes because she’s in way better shape,” said Rogers.

Rogers said that throughout the race he and Brenda continuously thought of the two words that have become one of the inspiring motto of Matt Brown: “never quit.”

Brown, who graduated from Norwood High School last Sunday, will be attending Stonehill College in the fall.
