City Diaper Drive will Benefit Haven from Hunger

There are five drop-off locations located throughout the city.

Peabody, MA - The Peabody Health Department, in partnership with the Mayor’s Office and Haven from Hunger, is sponsoring a diaper drive to benefit Peabody families.

One in three families in America struggle to afford diapers for their children. A lack of diapers can have many negative outcomes for children and families’ health, economic and emotional welfare, and educational opportunities.

According to the National Diaper Bank Network, “Women with diaper need also reported more difficulty with stress management, depression and coping with trauma – which can negatively affect a child’s health and development.”

Diapers are a basic need for children, as important to their health and well-being as food, shelter, and a parent’s love. Many Peabody families struggle to afford diapers, and few resources exist to help them.

Kitt Cox, co-founder of the North Shore Postpartum Depression Task Force, states “There are families living here right now who frequently face the challenge of deciding between food or diapers for their babies. Our Task Force has a saying that ‘when something stinks, it’s time for a change.’ We have an opportunity to contribute to a change that benefits the well-being of our entire community.”
