Man With Knife Turns Out to Be Neighbor With Pruning Tool Shooing Away Dog

The following excerpts are from reports in the Peabody Police Department press log on Oct. 14-15.

Monday, Oct. 14

• 2:41 p.m. A Hourihan Street resident reported a stolen car.
• 2:47 p.m. A Sabino Farm Road resident reported a past break-in to a home.
• 3:53 p.m. A person reported someone stole two Mongoose bikes from outside the McDonald's on Main Street.
• 5:35 p.m. A caller on Wallis Street reported neighbor's cat was struck by a car.

Tuesday, Oct. 15

• 12:55 a.m. An officer reported he struck a curb at the corner of Aborn and Washington streets and damaged the front driver's side rim of his cruiser.
• 7:49 a.m. A caller at Stark Circle reported hearing possible gunshots. An officer said he heard three sounds that could be what was reported, but he wasn't able to locate the source at the time. Middleton police were contacted and they believed the noises were coming from hunters in the area of Lonergan Road in Middleton.
• 11:06 a.m. A caller at Anthony's Bakery on Lake Street reported a female from Cobb Avenue has been coming onto his property and screaming at him over his dogs barking. The animal control officer said there were no complaints filed, however, and it would only be a nuisance violation if the dogs were barking incessantly.
• 12:48 p.m. Police received a report of a person who stole the keys to a box truck at Stop & Shop. The suspect was a male in his 40s, wearing a blue shirt and blue shorts. He took the keys out of the truck and left the area.
• 1:49 p.m. A female caller reported she was threatened by a man with a knife on Northend Street. Police responded to the scene and said that wasn't the case. The woman had let her dog out without a leash and the dog approached an elderly neighbor who was trimming his grapevine with a pruning tool. The man told the dog to "get away" and the woman then called police, saying her neighbor had a knife.
