New Hamphire Wants Peabody, Weymouth Hikers To Pay Rescue Costs
New Hampshire's Department of Fish and Game wants Henry Santos, 41, of Peabody, and his hiking partner to cover the cost of their rescue.
PEABODY, MA —A Peabody man and his hiking companion from Weymouth may have to repay the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game for rescuing them after they gt lost in the White Mountains Thursday night.
Conservation officers found Henry Santos, 41, of Peabody, and Nisrine Orgad, 27, of Weymouth,just after midnight and were able to escort the two hikers to Profile Lake by 7:15 a.m. Friday, according to a news release.

Santos and Orgad said they left the Greenleaf trail to take a direct route to interstate 93 when they feared they would not be able to complete their hike before dark. The route they opted for, however, had a steep descent of 2,500 feet.
The hikers contacted Fish and Game saying the could no longer continue on the steep terrain because they did not have a map, compass or light source.
