'Patriots Day' Film Crew Creating Hollywood Magic in Peabody

Former US Foods Warehouse on Centennial Drive become headquarters for set building and special effects.

PEABODY, MA - When you are aren't in Hollywood, sometimes you have to bring Hollywood to you, and that is good news for business in Peabody.

The former US Foods Warehouse in Centennial Park has been taken over by CBS Films to build sets and test special effects, among other uses, for the Mark Wahlberg starring and produced "Patriots Day" movie.

The film, which recreates the events of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, is scheduled to be released in January of 2017.

CBS Films has been using the 180,000-square-foot warehouse in Peabody for the past four weeks, and should be at the site for a total of six months, according to Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt.

"With its easy access to all the region's major highways, Centennial Park is the ideal location for such a large scale production as Patriots' Day," said Bettencourt. "The production will also benefit the local economy as film crew workers patronize area shops, restaurants, and hotels."

Those looking to get their face in the film can answer an open call for extras in Allston on March 13.

Although the filming is expected to bring business to Massachusetts and many are hopeful that the film will respectfully treat the events around the Boston Marathon bombing, requests to film on some of the scenes of the actual events have met with resistance, according to Boston.com.
